Nick sees an entirely different side of Gatsby when Daisy comes over for tea. Gatsby has always come off to Nick as mysterious and hidden but never unprepared. When Daisy is in Gatsby's presence, its like his very foundation is shaken. Nick now sees Gatsby with two different sides; his confident side and his childlike, insecure side that only Daisy can bring out. Nick does get annoyed with Gatsby after he keeps up his odd behavior throughout the evenning, but as Daisy and Gatsby get more comfotable with each other Nick soon learns that Gatsby is madly in love with Daisy and hasn't given up on her for five years. He admires Gatsby's persistance and patience.
As Daisy's backround is revealed to Nick by Jordan, you see a shift in his opinion towards Daisy. At first, when he went over to Daisy's and Toms house, Nick witnessess the sad life Daisy has and doesn't understand how she got there or why she would stay with a man that beats her and cheats on her. Or why she has a baby just for show, and prayed that the baby would be a boy. When Jordan tells him about Daisy's past he now understands where she's coming from and backround story behind her and Gatsby.
Nick doesn't show much admiration or respect for Tom. Although Nick is never disrespectful to Tom, he never thinks to himself that Tom is living his life the right way, or he wants to follow in Tom's footsteps. He is even a little confused with Tom and why he wouldn't appreciate his wife, Daisy.
