Where have you gone Charming Billy
The setting and the mood affect the reader's feeling toward PFC Paul Berlin by showing the instinctive nature and obedience of the soldiers. This can be seen even in the first line, "twenty-six soldiers moved slowly in the dark, single file, not talking". The soliders have been given orders by their leader and promptly obey them with precision. This is also relfected in how Paul Berlin feels about Billy Bennett. He is not out of line, and he does not leak his emotion. He does not let any of the other soldiers know how hurt he is, and he keeps it completely to himself. He just closes his eyes and imagines himself in a better place. Something that would be expected on an obedient solider.

70's commercial fallacies
Corn Flakes
An appeal used in this commercial is logos. Since in the commericial is says "It wont wilt on milk" its stating that this would be the logicical cerial to buy because all the other cereals will melt
A fallacy used is appeal to tradition. They do this by using a refrence to the American Gothic painting which is kind of an american icon which represent tradition. Its appealing to the families that have grown up on corn flakes and feel they have a certain tie to America because of the tradition.
Alka Seltzer
Pathos- Uses pathos because there are more attractive and in shape stomachs featured in the commerical even though is suppose to be for "all stomachs, in any shape"
A fallacy used in this commercial is argument from omniscience. This can be seen because they use the term "all" but they really cant know if Alka Seltzer really works on every single stomach in the world.
Delk
An appeal used is logos. They state two important facts which are the bases of their commericial.

"Chain Gang"
The song "Chain Gang" is symbolism to the way African Americans feel in America: like prisoners. The literal supression that is faced when someone is in a chain gang is being compared the supression African Americans feel at the time this song was written. It also shows the how unchanged society is in the span of 50 60 years. African Americans are still faced with the undisireable repetitive laborous jobs. They are chained the way they were during slavery times. Slavery has been abolished but the unfair treatment of blacks has not. This can be seen in the lyrics, "I hear them moanin' there lives away"
